4 FanDuel Premier League Studs to Target for Matchweek 4

Manchester City could thrash Brighton at home on Saturday, so you'll want some exposure to the defending champs. Who else is worth paying up for?

As is the case when playing any sport on FanDuel, it’s imperative to hit on high-priced studs, the players in which you’ve made the biggest investment. This is especially true with forwards in soccer. Not only are the top-end forwards expensive, they are the ones most likely to put the ball in the back of the net, and goals are often the difference between winning and losing in DFS.

This article will cover FanDuel's main slate, which begins Saturday at 10:00 a.m. EST and features seven matches, making it the largest main slate of the season thus far.

Matchweek 4
Saturday, August 31st
Brighton at Manchester City
Watford at Newcastle United
Bournemouth at Leicester City
Norwich at West Ham
Sheffield United at Chelsea
Aston Villa at Crystal Palace
Liverpool at Burnley

The slate's biggest favorite, per Soccer odd, is Manchester City, who carry massive implied win odds of 93.5%. Liverpool (77.3%), Chelsea (75.6%), Leicester (60.8%) and West Ham (53.5%) are also healthy favorites.

Let’s take a look at some high-priced players -- all across the pitch -- who, despite costing a good chunk of change, are worth the investment.

Sergio Agüero, FWD/MID, Manchester City

FanDuel Price: $22

With Man City holding laughably high implied win odds of 93.5%, you need exposure to Pep Guardiola's bunch. They're pretty darn pricey across the board, so unless some squad rotation opens up value on their team, it'll be hard to go too heavy on them, but City could easily put four or five past Brighton.

Agüero will likely handle penalties for City, and he's scored in all three of their matches so far, totaling four goals. He created three chances last week at Bournemouth in addition to netting a brace on his way to a monster 51.6-FanDuel-point day. We could be looking at a similar performance this weekend.

While we won't touch on any other City players in this piece, you can feel good about any of City's key cogs -- Raheem Sterling ($24), Kevin De Bruyne ($20), David Silva ($18), Bernardo Silva ($14) and Oleksandr Zinchenko ($16). Zinchenko, if he starts, would be particularly appealing since he'd also give you access to a clean-sheet bonus should City blank Brighton.

Sadio Mane, MID/FWD, Liverpool

FanDuel Price: $20

Liverpool boast implied win odds of 77.3% for their trip to Turf Moor. If Burnley are at their best, they could make this a dogfight for the Reds, but if Liverpool could score early and force Burnley to be a little more expansive, things could get away from the Clarets.

Mane has been outstanding in his past two league matches, notching a goal and an assist at Southampton (52.2 FanDuel points) and racking up four chances created at home against Arsenal (26.1 FanDuel points). In all, he's created nine chances and put three shots on goal over those two outings, while also adding some defensive stats.

The lack of set-piece duty -- penalties or corners -- always dings Mane's DFS value a bit when compared to Mo Salah's ($24), but Mane still offers slate-changing upside in a match in which Liverpool are big favorites.

Sébastien Haller, FWD/MID, West Ham

FanDuel Price: $18

With Haller fresh off a two-goal game, this feels like chasing points, but West Ham are in a really nice spot this week at home against Norwich. Haller totaled three shots on goal on his way to the brace last week, amassing 47.6 FanDuel points.

Stacking Haller and Manuel Lanzini ($14) likely limits the exposure you can get to City, but it would give you a great shot at getting in on any West Ham goal. Norwich have shipped eight goals through three matches, though four came in an opening night loss at Anfield. Still, the Canaries allowed three goals and eight shots on target last week to what had been a floundering Chelsea side, and that was a home match for Norwich.

All in all, the Hammers have some sneaky-good upside in this spot, and Haller could have another big game.

Emerson, DEF, Chelsea

FanDuel Price: $18

With the masses likely flocking to Man City and Liverpool, Chelsea's high-priced players could go under-owned. That might be a mistake as they're comfy home favorites versus Sheffield United.

Emerson has been superb to start the campaign for the Blues, starting at left-back in all three matches and relegating Marcos Alonso to the bench. At home versus the Blades, Chelsea should see a lot of the ball, giving Emerson ample opportunities to get forward. He's been credited with at least one chance created in all three outings this campaign, including four at Norwich last week.

While he's yet to tally an assist, it's coming if he keeps generating chances, and he carries nice clean-sheet odds, too, as the two most likely scorelines, per FanDuel Sportsbook, involve Chelsea keeping a clean sheet. Emerson makes sense as a stacking partner for striker Tammy Abraham ($16) or keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga ($14).
