Daily Fantasy Golf Helper: Hero World Challenge

By now, you've probably dabbled in daily fantasy sports, but if not, don't worry. Now is a great time to start, especially with FanDuel's daily fantasy golf offering.

Golf can be one of the most exciting DFS sports to follow, as tournaments span four days and allow ample time to prepare each week. It's a great balance between time to research and time spent tracking your team.

Let's take a look at some golfers to target this week.

Stats cited below come from FantasyNational and include the past 50 rounds on the PGA Tour unless noted. Ranks are among the field.

Ranking the Field

With just 18 golfers in the field, we may as well just rank the entire field. Everyone is in play because it's a field of solid golfers, so ownership and upside should dictate your decisions primarily. Here's how my stats model and projections rank the field.

Tier One

1. Jon Rahm ($11,500 | +430) - Last year's champion has won two straight events entering this week. Statistically, he rates out well enough to rank at the top.
2. Justin Thomas ($11,300 | +650) - The best statistical profile in the field, including leading in strokes gained: tee to green over the past 50 rounds.
3. Patrick Cantlay ($11,000 | +800) - The best scrambler and par 5 player in the field. He has a 12.0% chance to win.

Tier Two

4. Webb Simpson ($8,800 | +1200) - The go-to value play on FanDuel and a good Bermuda putter but no recent form at Albany.
5. Xander Schauffele ($10,400 | +900) - A small-field maven who does it all and can dominate the par 5s.
6. Tiger Woods ($10,600 | +1000) - Second-best approach player over a 50-round sample and a ZOZO Championship win in his last start.

Tier Three

7. Justin Rose ($10,200 | +1600) - Doesn't stand out in any stat but doesn't rate poorly, either. A steady bet in a loaded field with consecutive top-five finishes here.
8. Rickie Fowler ($10,000 | +1200) - Fifth here a year ago after a win and two thirds. Fowler's recent form is absent, as he hasn't played since the TOUR Championship.
9. Henrik Stenson ($8,400 | +2200) - Leads the field in approach and has finished 4th, 17th, and 2nd here the past three years.
10. Bryson DeChambeau ($9,700 | +1600) - Hasn't played since a 4th at the Shriners, but the approach play is trending up.

Tier Four

11. Patrick Reed ($9,000 | +1800) - A good course fit: 11th, 5th, 10th, 2nd, 3rd the past five years. Reed is trending up since August.
12. Gary Woodland ($9,200 | +1800) - Post-major-win rust seems knocked off, evidenced by a 3rd and 5th on the Asian swing; 8th here last year.
13. Tony Finau ($9,400 | +1800) - Last year's runner-up is eighth in approach but a weak Bermuda putter.
14. Matt Kuchar ($8,600 | +3100) - A 14th followed by a missed cut is the swing season form for Kuchar, whose irons have been cold. Price is nice.

Tier Five

15. Jordan Spieth ($8,900 | +2200) - The best short game in the field but poor extended ball-striking form puts him down the list; a winner and four straight top-sixes here excluding last year when he didn't play.
16. Chez Reavie ($N/A | +5000) - No price on FanDuel yet for the replacement but the 2019 form outdoes the two below him.
17. Bubba Watson ($8,000 | +3300) - Leads the field in strokes gained: off the tee and won here four years ago. Recent form is bad.
18. Kevin Kisner ($8,200 | +4100) - Should gain fairways but lacks the birdie upside to contend and score tons of fantasy points.
