DraftKings Daily Fantasy Golf Helper: Sentry Tournament of Champions

Winners only: the past year's champions gather on the island of Maui for 2020's first PGA event. In this small field, which golfers can we roster to gain leverage on the field on DraftKings?

Daily fantasy golf requires a new approach for each and every event.

The course and field change week after week, making no two contests alike. That means you need to refine your approach for each PGA Tour event to try to find golfers who are primed to excel for your daily fantasy golf lineups.

Each week, we have a course primer, and our daily fantasy golf projections and lineup builder can help you get started, but these golfers stand out specifically on DraftKings for the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

High-Priced Studs

Jon Rahm (DraftKings Price $11,400 | FanDuel Sportsbook Win Odds +450) - The time is now for Rahm. He has fared well at Kapaula in the past, with finishes of eighth and second the past two years, and in his two full seasons on the PGA Tour has shown a propensity to start the year with a bang. His finish last year was one of seven straight top-10 finishes, and his form is somehow even better right now. Over his last five worldwide events, Rahm has finished second, first, first, missed cut, second. Aside from that one missed cut, he hasn't finished outside the top 13 since Colonial in May. He can bomb it with the best of them and has a legitimate claim to best golfer in the world right now.

Xander Schauffele ($10,600 | +700) - Rarely will the defending champion fly under the radar, but Rahm and Justin Thomas ($11,100 | +500) figure to be so popular that Schauffele falls into a unique spot in the salary structure this week. He is close enough to the top two that many will just opt for the more expensive duo, and those looking for cost savings have some options right below him. Xander loves the small, strong fields, and Kapalua allows him to be his best aggressive self. He won in Shanghai a few starts before his victory in Maui, and as a runner up there this year, he boasts comparable form. He needed a supernova round on Sunday to claim the crown, and those types of rounds are exactly why we roster Schauffele in DFS.

Mid-Priced Options

Paul Casey ($8,800 | +2200) - Casey is a terrific salary saver this week, profiling as the best statistical case under $9,000. He is second in strokes gained: tee to green, third in strokes gained: approach, and fourth in both bogeys avoided and strokes gained: par 5s. He did just okay in Asia but was excellent in Europe this fall, picking up a win at the Porsche European Open and earning a T5 his last time out at the Emirates Australian Open. That sneaky good form, plus long term stats in PGA events, make him an ideal play at a track he should be more familiar with this time around.

Joaquin Niemann ($8,000 | +4200) - A winner this fall who has since been far from dominant, Niemann is among the best sneaky plays in this tight field. The ballstriking is pristine, and although he has yet to prove he can tame bermuda greens, these are not exactly the most intimidating surfaces. Niemann is fifth in birdies or better gained, seventh in strokes gained: approach and strokes gained: par 5s, and ninth in strokes gained: tee to green.

Low Priced Options

Matthew Wolff ($7,900 | +5000) - Wolff's college career gave him immediate credentials when he turned pro, and he paid off that hype almost immediately with a win in his third professional start at the 3M Open. Now, somehow, he's become underrated among many of the same peers he was busy dominating in the NCAA's this time last year. His takeaway from the win in Minnesota was validation that he belongs among the best players in the world, and what better spot to hammer that point home than at the event of all PGA Tour winners? Wolff is 11th on par 5s and 16th in strokes gained: tee to green and birdies or better gained.

Corey Conners ($7,800 | +5000) - There are few golfers in the world that can match Conners' ballstriking prowess, and in his first start since a Presidents Cup snub you can bet he'll be locked in to show his 2018-19 season was no fluke. He found remarkable consistency at the tail end, closing his 2019 with four straight top 20s, including a T6 at the ZOZO Championship. Conners is second off the tee and sixth on approach, second only to Casey in this field in combined ballstriking.

Keith Mitchell ($7,000 | +11000) - Bermuda Keith stared Brooks Koepka right in the eye and lived to tell the tale at PGA National, and his combination of length off the tee and short game wizardry make him an attractive punt option this week. You'll need to be in this range and below to squeeze in Rahm or Thomas, and you can do worse than Mitchell, who was T14 his last time out at the RSM Classic.

Bargain Basement

Adam Long ($6,900 | +12000) - Long came out of nowhere to steal the Desert Classic last January, and he arrives at Kapalua in much better form than he's had at any point in his career. He's played four rounds in eight straight events, by far the longest stretch of his PGA career, and he delivered some solid performances throughout the fall.
