HORSE RACING

Gulfstream Park Horse Racing Picks for Friday 5/15/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 1:00 p.m. EST, we have 11 races at Gulfstream Park. Using our projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

Gran Old Parr, Race 1

FD Racing Odds: 9/5

Of the 12 horses slated to run in Race 1, only one horse has ever finished third or better in a race. That horse is favorite Gran Old Parr (9/5), and the gelding did it by finishing third in his only race, per Equiform.

Obviously, it's not easy to go all in on a one-race sample, but given the rest of the field, Gran Old Parr is appealing. Only one other horse in the field has finished better than fifth over their past five races, and that was a fourth-place finish from long shot Valid Exchange (30/1).

DailyHorsePicks.com (DHP) grades Gran Old Parr with the top speed rating in the field. DHP and our models both have him winning.

Take Charge Dude and Travy Boy, Race 2

FD Racing Odds: 7/5 and 2/1

Take Charge Dude (7/5), Killa Dee (9/2) and Travy Boy (2/1) look like the class of the field in the day's second race, which is scheduled to be just a six-horse event.

I lean toward Take Charge Dude. The gelding has been in the top three in 14 of his 21 career races. In 2019, he ran 12 times, notching five firsts, one second and two thirds -- getting in the top three in eight of his 12 races.

DHP gives Take Charge Dude the best speed rating in the field while also forecasting him to win a race-best 35% of the time (top three 94% of the time).

As for Travy Boy, the gelding has 29% odds to win and an 85% chance of being at least third, per DHP. His speed rating isn't far from Take Charge Dude's, and Travy Boy has a first and a second in his last two races, both of which have been at Gulfstream.

We project Take Charge Dude to win, Travy Boy to place and Arrivederla (4/1) to show.

Tons of Gold, Race 6

FD Racing Odds: 5/1

Tons of Gold is winless over 11 career races, but the colt has been in the top three four times in those 11 events. He's aided by what looks like a pretty soft field in Race 6.

According to DHP, Tons of Gold has the race's top speed rating, and they project him with a 20% chance to win as well as a 59% chance to come in the top three. Both of those are the second-best clips in the field, with Speedy Hans (2/1) holding the best mark in each.

This race is a mile long, and my hesitation with Speedy Hans is he has run more than six furlongs only once in his past five outings. Meanwhile, Tons of Gold has gone at least a mile in four of his last five events. Our models project Tons of Gold for second while we have Speedy Hans missing out on the top three.
