Fonner Park Horse Racing Picks for Monday 5/18/20

Fonner Park has eight races slated for tonight. Which horses are worth a wager at FanDuel Racing?

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 5 p.m. EST today, we have eight races at Fonner Park. Using our projections as a guide, here's a look at some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

(I will be referencing Equibase's Speed Figure, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions)

Quick Sense, Race 1

FD Racing Odds: 6/1

In the first race of the day, I like Quick Sense to place first -- top-three at the very least. The filly has raced just once at Fonner Park, which was a first-place finish back in March. Her form has been on the rise, and her last three races have been the best stretch of her career. Overall, she has three wins in her last six efforts.

Emmas Silver Rose (3/1) and (betting favorite) Holiday Clover (5/2) both come in having placed first in two consecutive races at Fonner. Both should place well in this one.

Awesome Max, Race 3

FD Racing Odds: 5/2

Awesome Max is both numberFire's top pick and the betting favorite. The gelding has raced just once since 2018, and that was a third-place finish here in April. He achieved a Speed Figure of 53 in that one. He's finished fifth and second in two of his three workouts at Fonner since the end of March.

Go Chiva Go (4/1) and Classy Magic (12/1) have both had mixed results recently but are also worthy of consideration.

Panic Button, Race 5

FD Racing Odds: 5/1

Panic Button has raced six times at Fonner Park in 2020, and his most recent five have each been top-three efforts. The gelding has had a Speed Figure of 50-plus in each of those five races, including three with 60 or more. In comparison, the betting favorite -- Spunky Kitten (5/2) -- has only reached 60 in 1 of his last 12 outings. numberFire's model doesn't have Panic Button inside the top-three, but I like his recent form to help him place first.

Speaking of recent form, both Natttyme (10/1) and Smokin B (4/1) have been trending up as of late. They're worthwhile considerations.

Dorothe Marie, Race 7

FD Racing Odds: 4/1

Our models have Dorothe Marie placing first in Race 7, and I like that pick. The mare's recent form has been improving. She has raced four times at Fonner in 2020, placing inside the top-three in each of her last three. Her Speed Figures have been 53 or higher in seven straight efforts, whereas the favorite -- True Allegiance (3/1) -- has scored below 50 in three of her last five. Dorothe Marie has finished second or third in five of her last six, but I like her placing first in this one.

Racey Reecey (12/1) has had improving form and is worth a look as a longshot.

I Call Shotgun, Race 8

FD Racing Odds: 8/1

numberFire has I Call Shotgun posting a runner-up finish, but I like his chances of winning this first. The gelding has raced four times this year -- all at Fonner -- and has placed third three times and first once. He achieved Speed Figures of 74 or better in each of those four races. The betting favorite -- Banjo Bill (5/2) -- hasn't sniffed 60 in four of his last five efforts.

Brett's Boy (4/1) is our algorithm's projected winner and comes in having placed second in four of his five races at Fonner in 2020. He's netted Figures of 75 or better in four of his last six. I'm Lucky (5/1) is fresh off a win two weeks ago, and his recent form makes him a solid pick, too.
