Golden Gate Fields Horse Racing Picks for Thursday 5/21/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 3:45 p.m. EST, we have seven races at Golden Gate Fields. Using our projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

Oh What A Ride, Race 2

FD Racing Odds: 6/1

numberFire's projections like Race 2 favorite Salsa Verde (2/1) to take this, but those are awfully short odds for a filly who's never finished higher than third place, doing so once in five tries (3-5-4-7-4). Per our racing stats, she still has the second-best power rating and best high speed in the field, but we're not getting much value here.

Instead, Oh What A Ride looks tempting at 6/1 odds. Oh What A Ride has finished third twice in three tries and comes in with the third-best power rating. All her races have come at Golden Gate Fields, and one of those third-place finishes came in her last race in March at this same distance (one mile).

This doesn't seem to be the strongest seven-horse field, either, as inexperienced longshots Desert Fog (15/1) and Swift Justice (20/1) have combined for three last-place results, and even Firstclasstoparis (3/1) has never finished higher than fifth (5-5-6-6-6).

Lacey's Rainbow, Race 3

FD Racing Odds: 6/1

Although Lacey's Rainbow faces some stiff competition in favorite Sierra Sunrise (8/5), the mare has won twice in her last three races (both this same distance at Golden Gate), potentially giving us some solid value at these odds.

Lacey's Rainbow is numberFire's projected runner-up behind Sierra Sunrise, and she has the third-best high speed rating behind Sierra Sunrise and No Spin Zone (2-1), per our stats.

Considering Sierra Sunrise's strong recent form (2-1-3-4-1), you may be hesitant to bet against her, in which case you could also consider pairing her and Lacey's Rainbow in an exacta wager to finish one-two.

Darkhawk, Race 5

FD Racing Odds: 5/1

Darkhawk hasn't raced since January but has looked great in recent workouts, ranking 2nd of 23 and 8th of 121 the past two weeks, per Equibase.

He wasn't at his best in his last appearance (fifth), but the gelding finished second and third in his previous two races. numberFire's model projects Darkhawk to finish second behind favorite Muskoka (3/1), whose also had a long layoff (February). Muskoka also hasn't had the best recent form, finishing sixth and seventh in his last two.

Darkhawk owns the field's third-best high speed rating.
