Gulfstream Park Horse Racing Picks for Friday 5/22/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 1:00 p.m. EST, we have 11 races at Gulfstream Park. Using our projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

She's Just Quality, Race 1

FD Racing Odds: 5/1

I'm going to buck our projections right off the bat today and roll with She's Just Quality (5/1) in Race 1, a horse we have finishing outside the top three.

The reason I'm into She's Just Quality is because of how the filly rates out at DailyHorsePicks.com. Going by DHP's speed and pace ratings, She's Just Quality is in her own class. The reason she's only the fourth-favorite likely has to do with her lack of history as she's run only once before. But that one run was a second-place finish at this same track back on April 20th, and she was beaten by just a length, per Timeform.

That previous race was only five furlongs, and today's opener is a mile long. Distance could be an issue, but I'm intrigued by the combination of the elite speed and pace ratings with the 5/1 odds.

Ten Miles High, Race 5

FD Racing Odds: 4/1

Ten Miles High (4/1) opened as the third-favorite, and I think there's some value here.

DHP gives Ten Miles High a 14% chance to win -- the exact same number it has for Bourbon Street (5/2) and Dr. Samadi (3/1), the two horses with better odds than Ten Miles High. DHP's pace rating places Ten Miles High atop the field, while the site's speed rating has the gelding tied for second -- besting Dr. Samadi and Bourbon Street in both stats.

Ten Miles High hasn't yet run at Gulfstream, but he has finished second in each of his career races, both coming at Tampa Bay Downs. He went 6.5 furlongs in each of those outings, and this race is slated for 6 furlongs.

If you're looking for a long shot, it's worth checking out Union Line (15/1), the horse with the best speed rating in the field, per DHP. DHP gives him a 30% chance of getting in the top three despite Union Line carrying the second-worst odds on FanDuel Racing.

Don't Get Khozy, Race 7

FD Racing Odds: 5/2

Race 7 gives us three horses that -- on paper -- are ahead of the rest of the field. Those three are Pick Up The Fone (2/1), Don't Get Khozy (5/2) and Words of Devine (3/1). No other horse is at better than 8/1, as of Friday morning.

You can make a solid argument for all three, but I side with Don't Get Khozy, who is also the pick of our algorithm. The filly is in sparkling form, winning each of her last two races. Before that, she recorded a third and a second. All of those outings came at Gulfstream. The negative is that none of them went seven furlongs, the length of this race.

For her career, Don't Get Khozy has crossed in the top three in seven of her 12 races, six of those being top-two finishes. DHP gives her a 16% chance to win, which trails only Pick Up The Fone (18%).

Like I said at the jump, all three of the favorites in this race are appealing, so if one of them ends up with much worse odds than the other two, it's not a bad idea to pounce on that horse. But with these current odds, I like the in-form Don't Get Khozy.

Flash Pass, Race 10

FD Racing Odds: 4/1

Our projections and Timeform both like Flash Pass (4/1) at this number, which makes him just the fourth-favorite.

Flash Pass' last five races have all been at Gulfstream, although he has just two top-three finishes -- a second and a third -- in that span. However, the second came with Luis Saez at the controls, and Saez is scheduled to be riding today.

Flash Pass has already run six times this year, and we like the gelding to get his first win of 2020 today.
