Lone Star Park Horse Racing Picks for Monday 6/1/20

Lone Star Park has nine races on slate for today. Which horses are worth betting on at FanDuel Racing?

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 2:35 p.m. EST today, we have nine races at Lone Star Park. Using our projections as a guide, here's a look at some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

(I will be referencing Equibase's Speed Figure, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions)

Swiss Minister, Race 1

FD Racing Odds: 3/1

In what should be a competitive race, Swiss Minister is the betting favorite. The gelding is coming off consecutive first-place finishes, posting a Speed Figure of 96 in his most recent effort at the end of April. That form is hard to ignore.

Red Clay Magic (4/1) wasn't sharp in his first two races of 2020, but the gelding picked it up in his most recent outing -- placing second and achieving a Figure of 83. He'll be jockeyed by Stewart Elliott, who has won 29% of his races here in May and has placed top-three 62% of the time. numberFire's pick, Got My Mo (7/2), has seen his Figures increase in three straight, though his workout here last week won't cause any excitement. Concur (5/1) and Monydontspenitself (5/1) have both shown ability that few horses in this race can match, but the latter has actually had intriguing form of late.

Lagoon Falls, Race 4

FD Racing Odds: 12/1

Despite 12/1 odds, numberFire's models like Lagoon Falls to place first in Race 4. The filly had her first career race at Will Rogers two weeks ago and placed first by seven lengths. She'll be jockeyed by David Cabrera, who has a top-three percentage of 58% in 2020. Her figure of 53 in the win was nowhere close to what some of her competitors have posted recently, but she's worth a shot at these odds.

Speaking of recent form, Miz Nightcap (2/1) is the betting favorite for good reason. She has posted figures of 75 or higher in three straight and has five top-three efforts in her last eight races. Lunera (9/2) has solid form and a jockey with a considerable amount of success at Lone Star. Aquina's Advice (6/1) and Aunt Sunshine (8/1) are both coming off wins and need to garner serious consideration.

Stalemate, Race 5

FD Racing Odds: 7/2

numberFire's algorithm projects Stalemate to finish third, but I like the filly's odds in this one. After not showing much in the first four races of her career, she has finished first and second in her last two with Figures of 72 and 83 to boot. She'll also be jockeyed by the aforementioned Elliott, which certainly doesn't hurt her chances.

Our model's pick and betting favorite Lady Gwen (3/1) has displayed fantastic form in her last three outings. She has posted second, first, and fourth, while posting Speed Figures of 61, 74, and 73 in those efforts. Her workout at Lone Star two weeks ago was nothing short of impressive. Lil Red Vette (6/1) and Boston Cadillac (10/1) could also place well.

Hi Skool Sweethart, Race 7

FD Racing Odds: 20/1

Yes, for my final pick of the day, I'm bringing you a horse with 20/1 odds.

numberFire projects Hi Skool Sweethart to place first, despite the long odds. Though her most recent race in late February was far from ideal, she did post a Speed Figure of 82 just 18 days before that. Her workout here a week ago showed a horse capable of winning this race.

Betting favorite Golden Lullabye (9/5) is coming off a first-place finish at Will Rogers a month ago and must be considered. Willtheresaway (15/1) is another longshot who could surprise. Faith Factor (5/2) and Chianti (10/1) both have two victories over the last year and could look to make it three.
