Belmont Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 6/6/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 1:15 p.m. EST, we have 10 races at Belmont Park. Using our projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes, and check the weather.

I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.

Flop Shot, Race 6

FD Odds: 6/1

The $150K Fort Marcy Stakes (G2) drew a field of nine going 1 1/8 miles on the turf. Daily Horse Picks (DHP) has this Irish-bred Flop Shot (6/1) hitting the board for EPO trainer Chad Brown off a 10-month layoff. So does numberFire, and the odds on Flop Shot suggests a 16% chance to win at FanDuel Racing. A strong turn of foot, first time Lasix and a drop down against easier competition in his return. Value.

Instilled Regard (7/2) is the second of four Brown-trained runners in this race and will be pressing the pace. Finished third in the Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1) in January with a big 116 speed figure. Top pick at DHP and include in the Empire Pick 6 mandatory payout that starts in this race.

Longshot Somelikeithot (15-1) will be the controlling pace and can handle the distance while Social Paranoia (9/2) will press the pace and easily handle the distance for EPO trainer Todd Pletcher. He's 3-for-3 in the Trifecta on the Belmont turf. Social Paranoia won a graded race in March off a layoff, is working well in his return and has never missed the Superfecta in 13 career starts. Include in Pick 3 and Empire Pick 6.

Monongahela and Payne, Race 7

FD Odds: 4/1 and 8/1

These two stablemates are trained by Chad Brown, and both have a shot in here to upset the favorite off a long layoff, Code of Honor (6/5). This is the 1 1/16 mile Westchester Stakes (G3), and Daily Horse Picks calls for the favorite on top. But next is Monongahela (4/1), who has finished first or second in 19-of-29 starts and has posted speed figures of 113 or higher in his last three starts. Monongahela is 15-for-17 in the Trifecta at this distance and is a reliable board hitter.

Payne (8/1) is in play for value seekers having won three straight Allowance races, showing good speed for this one-turn race and moving up for his first stakes test. Four wins and he’s hit the board in all 10 starts.

Rose Flower, Race 8

FD Odds: 8/1

The $100K Intercontinental Stakes (G3) is 7 furlongs on the turf for older fillies and mares. Trainer Chad Brown has four more runners, and all four are the top betting choices. His favorite is Significant Form (5/2), who makes her 2020 debut breaking from the far outside 12 post. She won this race last year and posted three straight speed figures of 104 or higher the end of the year. But Daily Horse Picks prefers another Brown horse, Newspaperofrecord (3/1), to win with the best speed cutting back and running on the front end. She’s talented but has been off for 11 months and is tough to manage for connections.

Rose Flower (8/1) is a closer coming off a layoff but is lightly raced and has a new trainer in Clement. Ran better than she showed last out with a troubled trip. An ideal distance and value offering. Jakarta (15/1) offers great value moving up in class off three straight wins in a good current form cycle.
