HORSE RACING

Belmont Park Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 6/27/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 1:15 p.m. EST, we have 11 races at Belmont Park. Using our numberFire projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

My Sister Nat , Race 8

FD Odds: 8/1

Scattered rain will likely have hit the Belmont track by 5:00 p.m. EST, and it may impact the $250K New York Stake (G2), a 1 1/4-mile route for older fillies and mares scheduled on the Inner Turf. My Sister Nat (8/1) is one of two mares in here for EPO trainer Chad Brown. She last ran a route in November, posting a 110 speed figure and coming from last of 12 to just miss by a neck in second. Jockey Jose Ortiz rides, and My Sister Nat offers some value.

Call Me Love (9/5) is the favorite and ran second in her North American debut earlier this month, going 1 1/16 miles, and now gets leading jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the saddle. numberFire has her third behind Mrs. Sippy (5/2) and Mean Mary (7/2), sired by Scat Daddy. Mean Mary will be a popular bet and is proven at the distance. She has the speed but steps up in class.

Wicked Trick and Diamond King, Race 9

FD Odds: 10/1 and 5/1

The $150K True North (G2) sets up as a better wagering race with eight older horses sprinting 6 1/5 furlongs. Promises Fulfilled (7/5) is the primary favorite and will take action with FanDuel Racing giving her implied odds of 42% to win. Promises Fulfilled won a year ago over this track for his seventh win in 17 starts, but he missed the board in his next two starts. He’s a vulnerable favorite, according to HRN’s Super Screener, and now makes his 2020 debut for trainer Dale Romans with Luis Saez aboard.

Wicked Trick (10/1) is the second choice by numberFire behind the favorite. He offers value at this price with six straight wins prior to last race and is improving steadily. He hit a 113 speed figure in his start in January in Allowance company. Wicked Trick finished fifth as the favorite in March behind the winner Diamond King (5/1), who ran big in that victory and breaks from the rail as a pace presser. Wicked Trick will come running late.

Firenzie Fire (2/1) is the class of the field and has finished first or second in six Belmont starts. However, he finished fourth in his last start in the Carter Handicap here in early June with his worst speed figure in his last 10 races. Now breaking from the outside No. 8 post, stay away if it's an "off" track, as his best speed figure in four starts on an off track is 96.

Uni and Got Stormy, Race 10

FD Odds: 7/5 and 5/1

Race 10 is the $250K Just a Game (G1) with seven fillies and mares scheduled to go one mile on the turf. Daily Horse Picks has the two favorites on top in Uni (7/5) and Newspaper of Record (8/5), both by EPO trainer Chad Brown.

There's low payoff potential unless Got Stormy (5/1) can press the pace and hold off the charge of Uni. She finished second to Uni in the Breeders’ Cup Mile in November as the slight favorite. Uni makes her 2020 debut and has 10 wins in 17 starts. Super Screener says this is her best distance, and her strong turn of foot has seen her win three of four starts on the Belmont turf.

Newspaper of Record won a Grade 3 easily here on the front end earlier this month off an 11-month layoff. She will be the pacesetter and many will likely include her in Pick 4 and Pick 5 horizontal bets. Newspaper of Record is the top pick of numberFire with Uni second, and each has strong implied win odds at FanDuel Racing.

Beau Recall (10/1) will be closing with Uni and can improve again second off a layoff. Beau Recall has four straight first- or second-place finishes and triple-digit speed figures in graded stakes races last year for EPO trainer Brad Cox with Jose Ortiz riding. Regal Glory (10/1) is the third runner in here for trainer Chad Brown and runs best if turf is softer.
