Thistledown Horse Racing Picks for Tuesday 7/7/20
With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.
Starting at 12:50 p.m. EST, we have eight races at Thistledown. Using our projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.
As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.
Johnny U, Race 4
FD Racing Odds: 3/1
Our model picks Johnny U (3/1) to win in Race 4. Johnny U has been in the top three in six of his seven 2020 outings, including a trio of wins.
He's posted speed figures between 85 and 88 in three of his past four races, per Equibase. Those are just slightly below the 89 and 90 speed figures favorite Shadow Tracer (5/2) has put up in his last two races, but prior to that, Shadow Tracer hadn't recorded a speed figure above an 84 in 11 consecutive races. Our projections have Shadow Tracer missing out on the top three.
Fast Fairy, Race 5
FD Racing Odds: 5/2
Fast Fairy (5/2), the favorite, looks like the horse to bet on in Race 5, which is slated to be a six-horse race. He posted an 80 speed figure in a winning effort in his first race of 2020. Leopoldo (3/1) is our pick to place in what looks like a weak field, and he has a career-best speed figure of just 69.
Fast Fairy also has an edge at jockey in Yarmarie L. Correa, who owns a 21% win rate and 55% top-three rate over 98 starts this year at Thistledown.
It's not the best bang for your buck, but Fast Fairy should be tough to beat in this one.
Muy Caro, Race 7
FD Racing Odds: 5/1
Muy Caro (5/1) is a colt trending in the right direction. He opened with 43 and 63 speed figures in his first two career races, both of which came last year. In his first race of 2020, he registered a career-best 81 speed figure in a win roughly a month ago. While it remains to be seen if Muy Caro can repeat that speed, it's a speed figure no other horse in the field has topped.
The colt also checks a box at jockey in the form of Luan Machado, who has a 24% win rate and 45% top-three rate at Thistledown this season.
Our model picks Muy Caro to show, pegging Homers Magic (8/1) and Uncle Bud (6/1) to take the top two spots (in that order). But I like Muy Caro better than our algorithm does and think he has a real shot to win.
