HORSE RACING

Mountaineer Park Horse Racing Picks for Tuesday 7/7/20

There are nine races at Mountaineer Park tonight. Which horses are you betting at TVG and FanDuel Racing?

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and TVG gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 7:00 p.m. EST, we have nine races at Mountaineer Park. Using numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Soul Beam and Frost Proof, Race 2

FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/5 and 8/1

Nighttime racing and nearly an 80% chance of rain in the late afternoon prior to the races, so check the track and conditions. Two runners will take a large majority of the bets in this 1 mile 70 yards Allowance race on the turf. Soul Beam (7/5) and Mutashabeh (6/5) are the top two picks at numberFire, and Soul Beam being a favorite tells you all you need to know about the caliber of the horses.

Soul Beam has 1 win in 24 starts and has failed to hit the board in his last 11 starts the past year. His speed figures make him a favorite, as he hit 90 or higher in at least 12 of those starts. He was claimed by new trainer Chapman last race in June following a fourth-place finish at Churchill Downs.

Mutashabeh has hit the board in 6-of-9 starts and returns quickly after being disqualified as the winner July 1. His speed figures are not as solid as Soul Beam, but his improvement is evident, and trainer Burton Sipp finds a spot at a similar level.

Sipp also trains Frost Proof (8/1), a gelding showing little last year, and making his 2020 debut. Just 1 win in 20 starts, but leading jockey Odhair Mayda rides.

Wee Monie Creek and Shesa Bad Bad Girl, Race 4

FanDuel Racing Odds: 8/1 and 10/1

Race 4 is a cheap claiming race with eight fillies and mares sprinting 5 furlongs. Wee Monie Creek (8/1) is worth a shot in here at a price. Jockey Luis Colon has the best win rate at the meet with 14 winning rides in 64 starts. He won at this level a year ago at Laurel Park and now races second off a layoff after missing the board here June 21. Improvement coming.

Maddymax (4/1) is the top pick at numberFire. He’s an 8-year-old with 10 wins, including last year in a short field. Makes 2020 debut at the lowest level and can win if he reaches 70’s speed figure like his win in 2019.

The favorite Dee Way to Go (2/1) won at Thistledown a month ago, running on the front end against a large field.

Shesa Bad Bad Girl (10/1) is ready to prove it second off a layoff with a bullet work in place a week ago. She won at this level here on the front end last October and can figure again if she reaches that 74 speed figure.

Let’s Twirl, Race 6

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2

Race 6 is a Maiden Special Weight for fillies and mares at 6 furlongs. Let’s Twirl (5/2) is preferred over the favorite Neversaynoletsgo (8/5), who is the top pick at numberFire.

Let’s Twirl makes her 2020 debut with one career race under her belt and a runner-up finish here last summer. Some solid works in place to move forward.

Neversaynoletsgo makes her career debut with some good works at Belterra Park in place.

Posh Totty (8/1) also makes her 2020 debut with a pair of races to her credit and a runner-up finish. The rider/trainer combo of Colon and Sipp could steal this.
