HORSE RACING

Indiana Grand Horse Racing Picks for Wednesday 7/8/20

There are 12 races at Indiana Grand Wednesday, including six stakes races headlined by the $300K Indiana Derby and $200K Indiana Oaks. Which horses should you bet at TVG?

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and TVG gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 2:20 p.m. EST, we have 12 Thoroughbred races at Indiana Grand. Using our numberFire projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

She’sonthewarpath, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2

The biggest day of racing at Indiana Grand and the Pick 5 with a $100K guarantee starts in Race 8 -- The Indiana General Assembly Distaff for older fillies and mares going 1 1/16 miles on the turf.

The favorite on the far outside post 12 is She’sonthewarpath (5/2). She won a pair of minor stakes earlier this year at the Fair Grounds, posting back-to-back 104 speed figures. She actually ran a better race against a very strong Grade 3 field to finish a hard closing fourth with all four crossing together a half length apart. A repeat of that would be good enough to win today in her fifth straight stakes start.

The meet's leading jockey Deshawn Parker rides Seranitsa (8/1) just inside the favorite. She posted four straight 90s speed figures without a win last year, including two graded stakes races. She broke through with a win last month at Churchill Downs going 1 1/8 miles in Allowance company.

Amazima (10/1) also won her last race off a layoff in an Allowance race over this turf course. She drew away to win the 1-mile race by four lengths with a 94 speed figure and now makes her first stakes start at age 4.

Breaking from the rail is No Mo Lady (8/1), who won an Allowance race last month at Laurel following a five-month layoff. She has a strong closing kick from off the pace with a career-best 89 speed figure.

Longshots Streak of Luck (15/1), Unchained (20/1), Harmless (12/1) and Elle M'a Souri (12/1) have all been scratched by the trainers.

Alandra, Race 10
Miss T Too, Race 10

FanDuel Racing Odds: 8/1
Fan Duel Racing Odds: 15/1

Race 10 is the 1 1/16 mile, $200K Indiana Oaks (G3) for 3-year-old fillies.

Alandra (8/1) raced on the lead and won an Allowance race at Belmont last month with a career-best 87 speed figure. Trainer Shug McGaughey has worked her well since and sees improvement, as does trainer Bill Mott for Miss T Too (15/1), who also raced on the lead before fading and holding on for second in her two recent Allowance races at Churchill Downs.

Lucky Betty (20/1), Aurelia Garden (6/10) and Tempers Rising (10/1) have been scratched race day by their trainers.

Here’s a full breakdown of the Indiana Oaks.

Shared Sense, Race 11
Taishan, Race 11

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1
FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/1

Race 11 is the 1 1/16 mile $300K Indiana Derby (G3) for 3-year-olds.

I'm looking towards EPO trainers Brad Cox and Richard Baltas to give their colts a little boost in this race for Kentucky Derby qualifying points.

Shared Sense (4/1) showed improvement in a recent Allowance race to finish second with a 96 speed figure. Taishan (6.1) never fired in the Arkansas Derby but has shown some ability to close in minor stakes races and has a better chance to move in from off the pace today.

Here’s a full breakdown of the Indiana Derby.

Our Neighbor Boys, Race 12
Sunsign, Race 12

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/1
FanDuel Racing Odds: 30/1

Race 12 concludes the day and Pick 5 at Indiana Grand. A wide open crap shoot for state-breds in this Maiden Special Weight could produce another upset in a 6 furlong sprint.

Forever a Champ (9/2) is worth a play, projecting improvement in his second start after finishing third two weeks ago. Sunsign (30/1) never had a chance in that same race after getting slammed on both sides at the start but was moving well late and passing horses. He can outrun these odds.

Five Star Colonel (7/2) from the rail has a third-place finish last race with a slow speed figure and makes his fifth start. Favorite Sent for His Glory (5/2) makes his 2020 debut with some strong morning works in place and finished second at this level and track last year.

Our Neighbor Boys (5/1) improved in his 2020 debut three weeks ago here and made up ground in the stretch to finish third on a track favoring speed. He gets an added furlong today to get to the wire first.
