HORSE RACING

Parx Horse Racing Picks for Tuesday 7/14/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 12:55 p.m. EST, we have 11 races at Parx. Using our numberFire projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Spanky, Race 3

FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1

We had the winner in a similar 5.5-furlong sprint yesterday on Mess’n Around, and today we shoot for another and look for Spanky (3/1) to hit her stride again. She won for the seventh time in 19 starts three weeks ago by more than eight lengths as the heavy favorite. Spanky is the top choice at numberFire, and she will likely sprint out front again and try to hold off stronger runners.

The favorite is Love On Fire (5/2), who is breaking next to Spanky in the outside No. 8 post. She finished third as the favorite three weeks ago off a layoff and chased the winner before falling back in the deep stretch. She’s likely improve on the 82 speed figure from that outing.

Take Me Home (10/1) could prove to be aptly-named for the rider/trainer combo that won for us yesterday on Mess’n Around. She won on the front end three weeks ago, as well, but had to hold on to late charges while posting a 79 speed figure.

Synergized and Antrim Aubrey, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/1 and 5/1

This cheap Claiming race is a mile and 70 yards and drew eight runners. Synergized (6/1) raced well the second half of last year and won off a layoff last month. The four-year-old showed good tactical speed and took charge at the top of the lane to win easily against similar claimers. He showed an improved speed rating to last year’s top 86, and he could repeat at a decent price.

The favorite and top pick at numbeFire is Kion (2/1). There's not many quality runners in here when the sharp favorite has just two wins in 37 starts. Kion isn't worth the risk in my eyes as his implied odds at FanDuel Racing suggest a 33% chance to win, but he'll likely be bet down a bit. He chased the winner two weeks ago but couldn’t get by him in the stretch. Kion isn't one you can trust and is more risk than reward.

Hail to the King (7/2) is an entry with Knokke by the Sea, and the former finished third behind Kion last race.

Antrim Aubrey (5/1) followed a win in May with his best-ever speed rating (81) to finish seventh with a clunker last month. However, he clipped heels to start and never recovered as the favorite in the same race as Kion and Hail to the King. A bounce back is in order at a nice price.

Manipulate (12/1) has not shown enough speed, and Surfer Boy George (15/1) did win here at the distance in December and has been off since February.

Ark in the Dark, Race 10

FanDuel Racing Odds: 8/5

The prohibitive favorite Ark in the Dark (8/5) has unfavorable odds in this Allowance race at 6 1/2 furlongs. Despite no wins in the last year covering 10 races, he can handle this group. He did finish runner-up three weeks ago, losing by a neck yet five lengths clear of third place. Ark in the Dark improved his speed figure significantly to a 93 following a subpar 2020 debut in early June.

Ashraq (7/2) set the early pace going longer before fading badly to finish fourth. He adds blinkers and can improve off that 2020 debut race.

Sir Back in Black (8/1) was outrun by our pick in his 2020 debut and never a factor. However, he should improve second off the layoff, and he had lower odds when running in a pair of minor stakes races the end of last year.
