Canterbury Park Horse Racing Picks for Wednesday 7/15/20

Five stakes races highlight the nine-race card at Canterbury Park Wednesday. Which horses should you bet on at TVG?

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and TVG gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 5:40 p.m. EST, we have nine races at Canterbury Park. As always, check the program for scratches and changes.

Here are some of the best bets.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Angelus Warrior, Race 5

TVG Odds: 9/5

The Late Pick 5 with just a 10% takeout starts here with the $100K Mystic Lake Derby for three-year-olds going 1-mile on the turf.

Guaranteed Tip Sheet notes that race favorite Angelus Warrior (9/5) has hit the board in 4-or-5 at the distance and also 5-of-6 on turf. Conditioned by EPO trainer Mike Maker, Angelus Warrior ships in from Churchill Downs, where he won a big purse Allowance race last month from off the pace. He posted a career-best 100 speed figure.

Hondo Lane (8/1) owns the highest last race speed figure and can improve in his second start off the bench.

Creative Plan (10/1) has won two straight and tries to move forward in his second start off a layoff.

Summer Assault (5/2) is the biggest threat to the top choice. He ships in from Tampa Bay, where he has made all five of his starts and won the end of May with a 93 speed figure. Summer Assault will be the front runner and one to catch.

Winning Envelope and Streak of Luck, Race 7

TVG Odds: 5/2 and 10/1

Race 7 is the $75K Lady Canterbury Stakes for fillies and mares going 1-mile on the turf.

The favorite in this 12-horse field is Winning Envelope (5/2), a classy filly who owns a big late kick. She’s never hit the board in five graded stakes tries but has many triple-digit speed figures. Winning Envelope ships in from Churchill Downs off a runner-up finish June 19 when sprinting. Her late rally and speed produced a career-best 107 speed figure.

Streak of Lucky (10/1) has a key trainer change. This gray mare has faced tough competition in California and is capable of a press and pounce in-the-money finish. That despite no wins in 18 months covering 11 races. She is stakes place, and her speed figures have hit triple-digits seven times.

Beach Flower (8/1) is the defending champ of this race when posting a 99 speed figure. She won another race over the Canterbury turf last summer but is 0-for-2 this year. 9 wins and 24 in-the-money finishes for this press pacing 7-year-old mare.

Aife (4/1) has one stakes try in 27 starts and missed the board badly earlier this year. She’s been working sharply at the track for six weeks and won her last Allowance race at the Fair Grounds in March, covering this same distance from off the pace.

Fool’s Paradise (5/1) is a daughter or Pioneer of the Nile and breaks from the far outside. She could surprise with a fast pace and will likely be flying from off the pace. An exotic and Pick 5 inclusion. Fool's Paradise won back-to-back races last month at Lone Star and is in career-best form, having also finished runner-up twice this spring.
