HORSE RACING

Del Mar Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 11/22/20

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 3:30 p.m. EST, we have nine races at Del Mar. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Life Is Good, Race 2

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/5

Race 2 is a Maiden Special Weight for two-year-olds at 6 1/2 furlongs. We hit pair of short-priced winners yesterday at Del Mar, and here’s the best one today on Life Is Good (4/5), making his debut for trainer Bob Baffert with Mike Smith riding. This one’s sire is Into Mischief, who produced 2020 Kentucky Derby and Breeders' Cup Classic winner Authentic for Bob Baffert. Life Is Good is the projected winner of numberFire. He's ready to fire based on his impressive gate work and bullet-best of 51 runners in a 5-furlong workout earlier this week.

Wipe the Slate (4/1) debuts with a solid work pattern that includes a bullet work this week. He’s a son of Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist. Wipe the Slate drew outside. Jockey Mario Gutierrez should be able to get his horse to settle into a comfortable stride. Santos to Wilson (6/1) is the only starter with racing experience, and he finished a distant third last out but encountered some trouble and was forced to check in tight during his trip.

Boonesboro Beauty, Race 4

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2

Race 4 is a small Claiming race for fillies and mares at 1 mile. The projected winner based on numberFire’s data is Free My Soul (5/1) with favorite Boonesboro Beauty (5/2) a main contender after a wide trip but strong effort when finishing third last time out. Free My Soul has not raced since May and has not win since February of 2019.

Guaranteed Tip Sheet likes Free My Soul to be in the mix down the stretch, and Horse Racing Radar notes that Soothing is now scratched after recording the highest last-race speed figure. Fruitfully (15/1) is in from Golden Gate after winning on the synthetic surface last time out with a strong rally along the rail from off the pace.

Paige Runner (3/1) just missed winning here at the end of July and now has a jockey change to the meet's top rider, Abel Cedillo.

Take The One O One and Rookie Mistake, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1 and 8/1

Race 8 is the $100K Cary Grant Stakes for state breds running 7 furlongs. There are eight runners after Brickyard Ride and Appreciated were scratched. Horse Racing Radar projects El Tigre Terrible (7/2) to win and notes he has three wins in four Del Mar starts. El Tigre missed the money in his graded stakes debut last time out in September but won the Real Good Deal Stakes at Del Mar with a 96 speed figure, coming from off the pace to kick clear and win by more than four lengths as the favorite.

The runner up to El Tigre Terrible that race was Rookie Mistake (8/1), who has returned with some solid efforts and 107 speed figure when finishing a close third behind today’s favorite, Galilean (5/2). Galilean is the projected winner for Daily Horse Picks ahead of El Tigre Terrible. Galilean has won his last five state-bred stakes races at various distances, tracks and surfaces, but this is his first start on the Del Mar dirt.

Take The One O One (3/1) is the top pick for numberFire. Also, Horse Racing Radar notes Take The One O One is 3-for-3 on the Del Mar dirt. He finished fourth last race at Santa Anita in a Grade 1 race against Improbable and Maximum Security, who ran in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic. Take The One O One will likely set the pace for nearly a mile before fading against stronger runners.
