Gulfstream Park Horse Racing Picks for Wednesday 1/6/21

There are 10 races at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday. Which horses should you bet on at FanDuel Racing?

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 12:35 p.m. EST, we have 10 races at Gulfstream Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Stirling Drive and Financial System, Race 4

FanDuel Racing Odds: 8/1 and 12/1

Race 4 is a Claiming race for older horses going 1 1/16 miles on the turf. The numberFire algorithm projects Stirling Drive (8/1) to win followed by Morocco (3/1). Stirling Drive is a contender at a price based on back-to-back in the money finishes with 99 speed figures. He raced wide in his last race less than a month ago and came from off the pace to finish third. Leading jockey Edgard Zayas rides again.

Moocco is stretching out after a solid local return and win with a 102 speed figure. He rallied from 13 lengths off the pace to beat better claimers. Top jock Paco Lopez rides for EPO trainer Mike Maker, while Jose Ortiz rides stablemate The Last Zip (6/1).

Fig Jelly (4/1) has not won in his last 16 starts but drops in class and stretches out after setting a pressured pace and finishing fourth last race. Horse Racing Radar notes that Financial System (12/1) is 1-for-1 at Gulfstream and has hit the board in 6-of-7 starts at the distance. He had a solid recent breeze following two months off. Note the jockey change to Junior Alvarado.

Dr. Shane, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2

Race 7 is a Claiming race for older horses at 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf. The favorite, Dr. Shane (5/2), is a best bet at Guaranteed Tip Sheet, while numberFire projects him to finish second behind longshot Dexter Road (15/1).

Dr. Shane is a former winner here for trainer Danny Gargan. He drops in class and stretches out to two turns with the meet’s winningest jockey Luis Saez riding.

Dexter Road breaks from the outside No. 9 post. Trainer Enrique Arroyo has a solid ROI over the last 30 days, and numberFire suggests he’s a contender based on speed figures and today’s conditions.

Honolulu Express and Cash Call Kitten, Race 10

FanDuel Racing Odds: 8/1 and 8/1

Race 10 is another Claiming race for older horses going 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf. The top pick of numberFire is Farley (5/1) followed by Lahinch (7/2). Farley missed his chance to win and finished far back last race when he checked sharply early in the race.

Honolulu Express (8/1) is a longshot that could hit the board. He was solid in defeat when he set the pace recently and just missed at the wire at long odds last month. That's back-to-back runner-up finishes for the 4-year-old, who has six wins and four runner-up finishes in 23 starts.

Guaranteed Tip Sheet suggests a long look at Cash Call Kitten (8/1). He won here last summer with a 96 speed figure and has hit the board here twice since.
