Gulfstream Park Horse Racing Picks for Friday 2/12/21
It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.
Starting at 1:10 p.m. EST, we have 10 races at Gulfstream Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).
Secret Potion, Race 6
FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2
Race 6 is a Maiden Special Weight for 3-year-olds sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs. There are many short prices again, but it's tough to beat the two runners and favorites for EPO trainer Chad Brown. The Ortiz brothers are leading jockeys and get the call with Irad riding Secret Potion (5/2) and Jose aboard Value Creation (2/1). The data according to numberFire’s projections has them finishing first and second.
Secret Potion is a son of Into Mischief, who sired last year’s Kentucky Derby winner. He makes his dirt debut in his fourth start after racing against better runners on the turf last year. Value Creation is a son of Uncle Mo and makes his career debut.
WhatmakesSammyrun and Hyperfocus, Race 7
FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1 and 8/1
Race 7 is an Allowance race for 3-year-olds going 1-mile on the turf. Two contenders have been scratched, Kitten’s Firstlove and Advanced Cash, along with four others, Hot Blooded, Notable Exception, Safe Conduct and Top Gun Tommy.
The far outside horse in post 12 is the favorite, Whatmakessammyrun (3/1), with leading jockey Luis Saez riding. He’s projected to hit the board according to numberFire’s algorithm behind Kiger (8/1).
Whatmakessammyrun makes his first start since a troubled trip and runner-up finish here in December. Kiger was overmatched in his stakes debut last month but was a winner and also runner-up in two previous races locally.
Top jockey at the meet Irad Ortiz, Jr. rides Hyperfocus (8/1), a gelded son of Constitution, debuting on the turf for EPO trainer and the meets leader Todd Pletcher. He won his debut last May, and his last race was last June when finishing fifth at these same odds in a Grade III race at Churchill Downs. Daily Horse Picks rates him best as the top class in the field with Easy Time (6/1) and jockey Jose Ortiz a contender.
Longshot Omaha City (20/1) won a stakes race locally last fall with a solid 81 speed figure and can improve off his stakes race last month when never challenging.
Will Take Control and Curve, Race 10
FanDuel Racing Odds: 10/1 and 20/1
Race 10 is a Maiden Claiming race for 3-year-olds racing 1-mile. The numberFire data projects Romp (5/2) to do just that and win with Load Up Moe (4/1) as a key contender. The form ratings are solid for Romp, and Load Up Moe is facing an easier assignment than last race in his local debut and fifth start.
Longshots are worth a look, including Will Take Control (10/1) with expected improvement in his third start. Horse Racing Radar notes he’s a son of 2-time Grade I and Travers Stakes winner Will Take Charge. He’s dropping down in class after setting the pace and weakening at this same distance last race.
Curve (20/1) gets first time Lasix in his second start and could surprise as a board hitter with some good drills in place prior to his debut three weeks ago.
