HORSE RACING

Gulfstream Park Horse Racing Picks for Thursday 2/25/21

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 1:10 p.m. EST, we have 10 races at Gulfstream Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Joshy Jak and Proud Contender, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2 and 12/1

Race 5 is a Maiden Special Weight for state bred three-year-olds sprinting 6 furlongs. Twice Too Many (5/2) has a tough post draw, breaking from No. 11 with a short run to the first turn. Still, numberFire likes his chances and projects a runner-up finish behind Joshy Jak (7/2). Leading jockey Luis Saez rides again after Twice Too Many finished a distant second in his debut last month with a solid 84 speed figure.

Joshy Jak (7/2) was beaten by a neck at this level and distance two races back. He tracked the pace and finished third, going 1 mile last race as the favorite, and has hit the board in all three starts. Ubiquitous (12/1) came in 10 lengths behind runner-up Twice Too Many last race.

Proud Contender (12/1) is a sneaky longshot. Guaranteed Tip Sheet notes Proud Contender ran a very close second when sprinting here in December with an 80 speed figure, but he was fifth when going 1 mile last race.

Amalfi Princess and Can't Buy Love, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2 and 9/2

Race 9 is an Allowance race for three-year-old fillies sprinting 5 furlongs on the turf. La Libertee (3/1) is the favorite and projected by to numberFire’s data to hit the board. She finished third last month off a four-month layoff and was just a neck behind Can't Buy Love (9/2), who has a jockey change to Jose Ortiz for trainer Mike Maker. She is the only runner available for the $75K optional claiming price.

Dial To Win (8/1) is the top pick for numberFire while Guaranteed Tip Sheet has a best bet on Amalfi Princess (7/2), who is also by EPO trainer Mike Maker. She returns off a layoff and has the speed to take this up front while running with Lasix for the first time. Amalfi Princess makes her debut at Gulfstream after winning last time out on the dirt with a 94 speed figure, and she’s hit the board in 3-of-4 starts.

Frankie’s Girl and Mothers Day Jewel, Race 10

FanDuel Racing Odds: 9/2 and 20/1

Race 10 is a Maiden Claiming race for three-year-old fillies going 1 mile on the turf. numberFire's algorithm projects Frankie’s Girl (9/2) to win with longshots Irazu (8/1) and Family Time (15/1) to hit the board. Frankie’s Girl has finished in the money in two starts and had to steady last race along the inside when trying to move up, turning for home at this same distance. Mothers Day Jewel (20/1) -- who is running with Lasix for the first time -- hit the gate and was never a factor in a troubled debut last month.
