HORSE RACING

Santa Anita Park Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 4/4/21

There are 9 races Sunday at Santa Anita including the $100K Las Flores Stakes. Which horses should you bet on at FanDuel Racing?

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 4:00 p.m. EST, we have 9 races at Santa Anita Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Gamine, Race 2

FanDuel Racing Odds: 1/9

Race 2 is the $100K Grade III Las Flores Stakes for older fillies and mares sprinting 6 furlongs. The top pick according to numberFire’s data is the heavy favorite Gamine (1/9). The FanDuel Racing odds suggest an 82% win probability for Gamine.

She was the champion female sprinter in 2020 for trainer Bob Baffert. Her last race was a 6-length romp in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint in November when she posted an astonishing 121 speed figure.

No need to bet the race to win with no profit or return and only first place paid. There are just three other runners even willing to run against Gamine, and Hang a Star (8/1) and Baffert’s other runner, Qahira (5/1) are running for second place. Qahira is 2-for-2 at the distance.

Respectfully and Hot Rageous, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/1 and 5/2

Race 5 is an Allowance race for state bred 3-year-old fillies sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs on the Turf. The top pick according to numberFire’s algorithm is Respectfully (5/1) followed by Super Game (4/1) and the favorite Squared Shady (2/1).

Respectfully has finished runner-up in 2-of-3 starts over this track this year. Her last was a 89 speed figure when she ran on the lead and was nailed at the wire by a nose as the favorite. Super Game is a daughter of Super Saver and is 1-for-7 running against better in stakes company. Her best speed figure was 83 when finishing a close third as a huge long shot in January racing one mile.

Squared Shade ran well in open company in recent races but missed the money. She’s still found her niche as a good Cal-bred turf sprinter after she dominated state-bred maidens three races back. Hot Rageous (5/2) is now running for EPO trainer Peter Miller after finding her stride in a 4-length maiden win on synthetic. Top, leading jockey Flavien Prat rides her breaking from the rail.

Wishtheyallcouldbe and Slew South, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1 and 2/1

Race 9 concludes the weekend at ‘The Great Race Place’ and 8 state-bred maiden fillies and mares are entered to race 1 mile on the Turf. The numberFire algorithm has the favorite Slew South (2/1) hitting the board behind Ultimate Hy (5/2) and projected winner Wishtheyallcouldbe (4/1).

Wishtheyallcouldbe gets first-time Lasix and leading jockey Juan Hernandez to ride. She should settle nicely breaking from the outside post and stretching out for her first race since November and now dropping down from a state-bred stakes race.

Ultimate Hy finished second in her career debut in January. She was a head better than Slew South in that race. Slew South came back and had a tough trip last race when finishing fourth against similar Cal-bred maidens in a turf route. Her last two races and figures were the best of her seven-race career.
