Belmont Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 6/26/21
As always, check for scratches and changes and monitor the weather and track conditions.
(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)
Under the Gun, Race 2
FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1
Race 2 is a Maiden Special Weight for two-year-olds sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs. numberFire's data favors Up to the Mark (2/1) to win with leading jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding for EPO trainer Todd Pletcher. Carpe All Day (8/1) and Under the Gun (3/1) -- with Joel Rosario riding -- are also projected to hit the board.
Under the Gun was sired by the great Gun Runner. Up to the Mark has been training better for his debut.
Clairiere and Always Carina, Race 8
FanDuel Racing Odds: 9/5 and 1/1
Race 9 is the $250K Grade II Mother Goose for three-year-old fillies racing 1 1/16 miles. We have just five runners scheduled, and numberFire’s algorithm projects Clairiere (9/5) and Always Carina (1/1) to decide the race.
Horse Racing Radar notes that Always Carina has won two races easily. Clairiere ran the top last-race speed figure in this field and has two wins and two runner-up finishes at the distance. Top west coast rider Flavien Prat is riding Always Carina at Belmont since Santa Anita closed ahead of the Del Mar meet.
Minaun and Bye Bye, Race 9
FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2 and 9/2
Race 9 is the $$100K Wild Applause Stakes for three-year-old fillies, and it's going 1 mile on the turf. numberFire projects Bye Bye (9/2) to edge the favorite, Minaun (5/2). Guaranteed Tip Sheet likes Minaun to repeat her win two months ago off a long layoff. That win at Belmont was her U.S. debut, and she’s been training well for Chad Brown since.
Horse Racing Radar notes that Runaway Rumour (8/1) is undefeated in her two starts at Belmont. Bye Bye has won her last two races since switching over to the grass.
