HORSE RACING

Del Mar Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 8/14/21

Starting at 5:00 p.m. EST, we have eight races at Del Mar. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing.

As always, check for scratches and changes and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Carpe Fortuna and Thrilling, Race 6

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1 and 6/1

Race 6 is a Maiden Special Weight for three-year-old fillies at 1 mile on the turf. The numberFire algorithm projects Burgoo Alley (7/2) to win ahead of DCarpe Fortuna (4/1) and Thrilling (6/1).

Burgoo Alley won in June and was runner-up here a month ago at double-digit odds. Top turf jockey Umberto Rispoli rides again for EPO trainer Phil D’Amato.

Fortuna made up ground in her last race to finish third and should move forward in her second start off a layoff. Trainer Peter Eurton is winning at a meet-best 29% rate, according to Horse Racing Radar’s Guaranteed Tip Sheet.

Thrilling can win, per Guaranteed Tip Sheet. She’s bred to run long and was a debut winner and then a runner-up in last month at Del Mar with improved speed figure to 95.

Rideforthecause and Ippodamia's Girl, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2 and 4/1

Race 8 is the CTT and TOC Stakes for fillies and mares going a route of ground at 1 3/8 miles on the turf. The numberFire model projects stakes winners Rideforthecause (5/2) to top Neige Blanche (3/1) with leading jockey Juan Hernandez riding. Those two runners traded wins at Santa Anita since May with Neige Blanch’s win by a nose. Rideforthecause is proven at longer distances for EPO trainer Mike McCarthy and has improved each start this year, according to Horse Racing Radar.

Guaranteed Tip Sheet makes Ippodamia's Girl (4/1) a best bet with Joe Bravo riding for EPO trainer Richard Baltas. She won a restricted stakes race here three weeks ago at 1 mile and will likely be closing late with anticipation she handles the distance.

Letsgetlucky, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 8/5

Race 9 is an Allowance racer for state-breds sprinting 6 furlongs. A single to include in your FanDuel Racing Late Pick 4 and Pick 3 bets with numberFire’s top pick Letsgetlucky (8/5). She has a 43% implied win probability based on her odds at FanDuel Racing.

Letsgetlucky has faced good Cal-bred stakes company and hit the board in all four starts. She’s back quickly after taking third two weeks ago here off a layoff. It is a good sign she’s fit and ready, and Letsgetlucky should win if she avoids a speed duel with Catemaco (5/2), her biggest threat from the rail.
