Del Mar Horse Racing Picks for Thursday 8/26/21

Starting at 5:00 p.m. Eastern, we have eight races at Del Mar. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing.

As always, check for scratches and changes and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Mitigation, Race 1

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2

The day begins with a Maiden Special Weight for baby 2-year-old fillies going 1 mile. The numberFire data projects the favorite to win, Censorship (9/5), with trainer Bob Baffert’s runner posting the top speed figure for this field in an improved runner-up finish last race.

This is the first maiden dirt route of the season for maiden fillies in Southern California, and Mitigation (5/2) is a strong challenger with leading jockey Juan Hernandez riding. She’s a best bet of Guaranteed Tip Sheet off a pretty solid debut and looks like she wants more ground. Trainer John Shirreffs is 4-for-7 with second-start maiden stretch-outs on dirt the past two years, according to Horse Racing Radar.

Frost Alert and Law Abiding, Race 4

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1 and 5/1

Race 4 is a 5-furlong sprint for 2-year-olds on the turf, and four runners are trying to get into the race off the also-eligible list. At least eight juveniles will go to post, and numberFire’s in-the-money finishers are projected as Frost Alert (4/1), Anmer Hall (3/1), and Con On the Run (4/1).

Frost Alert has top turf rider Umberto Rispoli aboard, and he was a $270k juvenile purchase. Law Abiding (5/1) has sharp workouts for EPO trainer Richard Baltas, and he’s by strong sire Jimmy Creed.

Chasingserendipity and Majestic Steps, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2 and 3/1

Race 6 is a Claiming race for 3-year-old fillies at 1 mile on the turf. The FanDuel Racing odds make Chasingserendipity (5/2) the favorite, and she’s the top choice according to numberFire's model. Chasingserendipity had a good effort in her local debut and looks like a solid win contender against this group with jockey Drayden Van Dyke taking the call.

The morning line favorite will try to hold off Majestic Steps (3/1) and top jockey Flavien Prat. Majestic Steps drops to the lowest level of her career having faced stakes caliber runners and past speed figures that make her a legit win contender.

Agreetodisagree (6/1) could pay off in exacta or trifecta wagering with Jessica Pyfer riding, according to Guaranteed Tip Sheet.
