We the People Is Morning Line Favorite for the 2022 Belmont Stakes

Trained by Rodolphe Brisset and ridden by jockey Flavien Prat, We the People was installed as the 2/1 morning line odds favorite.
Unraced as a two-year-old, We the People has won 3-of-4 starts as a sophomore, including a wire-to-wire victory by 10 lengths ahead of Golden Glider in the recent Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont. He produced a huge new top 108 BRIS speed rating in that one.
We the People won the Peter Pan on an "off" track rated good, and he’ll likely be the pace leader in a race devoid of early speed. This gives We the People an advantage in a race that is not typically won going wire-to-wire unless you are a super horse like Justify or American Pharaoh. His balance distribution is a concern, as is his flop in the Arkansas Derby when he was worked up and washed before the race and had little energy.
We the People is a son of Constitution, and his sire was Tapit, who has sired four Belmont stakes winners.
This is the Belmont Stakes debut for Brisset, and Prat rides for the second time in the Belmont after finishing second last year.
In the 153-year history of the Belmont Stakes, 65 times the post-time favorite has won the race. That includes Essential Quality (7/5) last year, Tiz the Law (4/5) in 2020, Justify (4/5) in 2018 and American Pharoah (3/5) in 2015. But there have also been eight Belmont winners with double-digit odds across the last 15 years.
