FanDuel MLB Sunday Night Baseball Single-Game Helper: 7/28/19

J.D. Martinez is heating up and needs to be on our radar for Sunday night's single-game slate. Which other hitters should you zero in on?

FanDuel's single-game slates are a great way to make any MLB matchup more exciting, and FanDuel is offering single-game contests for the Sunday Night Baseball clash each week. What better way to wrap up the MLB week than to play a little DFS on Sunday night?

Single-game contests are a different beast. You have $35,000 to fill out a five-man lineup. There are no positional requirements, but there are three utility spots, one All-Star slot, and an MVP position. The player you put in the MVP spot has his points multiplied by two while the All-Star position gets his points multiplied by 1.5. The three utility places are scored like normal.

This Sunday's game is a rivalry matchup between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees at Fenway Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The probable pitchers are Domingo German and Chris Sale. Our models have the Red Sox winning by a score of 5.16-4.51.

Let's get to it.

J.D. Martinez ($9,000)

Both Sale and German are really good pitchers, so we've got to squint hard to find reasons to get excited about the hitters in this game. With that said, our models see nearly 10 runs being scored tonight, which speaks to the quality of these two offenses.

J.D. Martinez is catching fire of late, launching a homer in two straight games while totaling five extra-base hits across his past three. He's got a 44.9% hard-hit rate against righties, and German has shown some reverse splits in his young career, giving up a 42.9% hard-hit rate this season to righties, compared to a 36.4% clip to lefties.

Aaron Judge ($8,500)

Aaron Judge has a 29.0% strikeout rate this season, and when you pair that with Sale's 35.5% strikeout rate, it gives Judge a bottomless floor. But we don't have to concern ourselves with floor too much in the single-game format since one swing of the bat can have such a massive impact.

Against lefties over his career, Judge has racked up a .399 wOBA, including a monster .454 wOBA in the split this season. Sale has allowed 1.54 homers per nine to righties this year, giving up five dongs in 22 1/3 July innings.

Rafael Devers ($8,000)

Devers is having a breakout season, and his next tater will set a new career high for dingers. His numbers have improved pretty much across the board as he's upped his hard-hit rate (37.4%) while slashing his strikeout rate (15.9%), leading to a stellar .395 wOBA.

Devers has been particularly lethal against right-handed pitching, putting up a .423 wOBA and 42.9% hard-hit rate in the split.

Gleyber Torres ($6,500)

Torres has slowed lately, but his season-long numbers -- .363 wOBA, 20 jacks and a 40.1% hard-hit rate -- are still pretty darn good, especially when you factor in that he's 22. Torres has a .355 wOBA, 42.6% hard-hit rate and 43.6% fly-ball rate against lefties in his career. He's one of the better cheap sticks on this slate.

Jackie Bradley Jr. ($5,500)

If you're loading up on Boston's big boppers, Jackie Bradley makes a lot of sense. Sure, he'll probably be at the bottom of the lineup, but that's baked into his cost. Plus, if he's hitting ninth, he can be part of a wraparound stack with the likes of Mookie Betts ($9,500), Devers and Xander Bogaerts ($8,500), the likely 1-2-3 hitters in the Red Sox's lineup. After a miserable start to the campaign (.189 wOBA in April), Bradley has resurrected his season with wOBAs of .359 and .407, respectively, in May and June.
