MLB Betting Guide: Tuesday 10/6/20

numberFire has built comprehensive algorithms to pinpoint the bets with the highest probability of returning money, whether you are betting on the total, a line, or moneyline. For those new to numberFire, we use a five-star system to show which bets you should be targeting on any given night. Stars represent how much you should risk on a wager relative to what you would normally bet.

For example, if you would normally bet $110 to win $100 on a -110 spread wager, if we give a 3-star ranking, we suggest risking three times that amount: $330 to win $300.

Using our models as a guide, let's take a look at the best bets to make at MLB odds.

Houston Astros at Oakland Athletics

Under 9.0 (-115): 4-Star Rating out 5

Our model sees a lot of value in the under for Game 2 of the Houston Astros-Oakland Athletics series.

The pitching matchup pits Houston's Framber Valdez against Oakland's Sean Manaea. Valdez was outstanding in 2020, pitching to a 3.23 SIERA and 26.4% strikeout rate across 70 2/3 innings. Manaea had a 4.01 SIERA this season after posting a 3.82 SIERA in a small sample of 29 2/3 frames in 2018.

Offensively, Houston and Oakland ranked 18th and 16th, respectively, in wOBA this year, and both lineups struggled down the stretch -- with Houston recording a .291 wOBA in September while the A's held a .307 wOBA.

The line is set at 9.0 runs, and we see just 6.92 total runs being scored, projecting Houston to win 3.65-3.27. The under is a four-star bet.
