3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Tuesday 5/11/21

Stacks are the backbone of cashing daily fantasy baseball lineups. Correlation drives upside, creating the potential to place high or even win GPPs when your selected stacks explode offensively.

This column will do the digging and the dirty work to determine which stacks are worth rostering each day. Scoring upside will fuel the stacks that get the nod. Sometimes that will lead to chalky selections, but contrarian stacks will get their fair share of love too.

In addition to utilizing the touted daily stacks in handbuilt lineups, numberFire premium members can throw these highlighted stacks into an optimized lineup using our DFS Sharpstack tool. Our hitting heat map tool is also available to premium members looking for more stacking options. It provides valuable info such as implied total, park factors, and stats for identifying the quality of the opposing pitcher.

Let's take a look at the top stacks on today's main slate.

Oakland Athletics

The Oakland Athletics are the team I'm most excited to stack tonight at hitter-friendly Fenway Park. They represent a nifty pivot off of the game at Coors Field with their own tantalizing park factors to play with. According to the park factors at FantasyPros, Fenway ranks third for runs (1.103), eighth for triples (1.256), and first for doubles (1.404).

They'll also benefit from drawing a pitcher, Nathan Eovaldi, who has been out of sorts of late. Over the last 30 days, he has a grotesque 6.08 ERA, and he's ceded at least four runs in three of his last four turns. The veteran righty isn't going deep in games, either. He's pitched six or fewer innings in five of seven games this year.

When he exits, he'll hand the ball off to one of Major League Baseball's worst bullpens -- a theme that's prevalent in today's piece. According to FanGraphs, the Boston Red Sox have the fourth-highest bullpen ERA at 5.79.

The A's collectively rock righties. Since 2018, eight of the projected nine members of today's lineup have a weighted runs created plus (wRC+) above 115 in the split. They also boast substantial power, with seven members sporting an isolated power (ISO) above .200 and five north of a .220 ISO.

My two favorite stacking options are Matt Olson ($3,200) and Matt Chapman ($2,800). Olson's hammered righties for a .262 ISO and 135 wRC+ since 2018, and Chapman's recorded a .252 ISO and 129 wRC+ in the split. A potentially sneaky stacking option who I'll be all over is Seth Brown ($2.400). In his young career, he's tallied a .222 ISO and 131 wRC+ in 129 plate appearances against right-handed hurlers.

Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals have a tasty matchup with Chase Anderson in their hitter-friendly home digs tonight. Anderson's been thumped for a 5.54 ERA, 5.30 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA), and 1.38 homers per nine innings. He's pitched five or fewer innings in all six of his starts, putting a lot of pressure on a bad bullpen.

The Philadelphia Phillies have the highest bullpen ERA this year at a comical 7.06. They're also serving up 2.03 homers per nine innings. Their homer woes could be exacerbated at Nationals Park, as it has the sixth-highest park factor for homers at 1.135.

The top dog in this stack is Juan Soto ($4,000). In his big-league career, he's tormented righties with a .431 on-base percentage, .266 ISO, and 158 wRC+. Josh Bell ($3,200) and Kyle Schwarber ($2,700) are a couple more options I'm digging.

Trea Turner ($4,000) is my second-favorite stacking option, and he may be under-rostered due to sharing the same position as a forthcoming stud who's playing at Coors Field tonight.

San Diego Padres

It's not clear at the time of writing who the San Diego Padres will face tonight. Antonio Senzatela was going to be activated for Monday's game, but that was postponed, and they could opt to go a different route today with yesterday's unexpected night off. Regardless, what I do know is Coors Field is frequently a scene for offensive fireworks.

Coors Field leads the way in park factor for runs (1.362), singles (1.230), and triples (2.177) while ranking second for homers (1.257) and doubles (1.345). The Friars are also opposing the second-worst bullpen in baseball tonight. The Rockies have the second-highest bullpen ERA at 6.77. I like the Padres' odds of hanging a crooked number on the scoreboard tonight.

It starts at the top with the shortstop I teased above, Fernando Tatis Jr. ($4,700). He carries the highest salary of any hitter on tonight's slate, but that's unlikely to dissuade gamers from using him. The electrifying youngster has ripped nine homers, stolen seven bases, and rattled off a 136 wRC+ this year.

The entire lineup is viable for stacking, but I'm fixated on Trent Grisham ($4,000) and Wil Myers ($3,500). While I noted the Rockies haven't officially announced a starter for tonight's game at the time of writing, Jon Gray is the most likely alternative to Senzatela if they opt to wait another day to activate the latter from the injured list. In other words, it should be a righty getting the ball for the Rockies, and Grisham's hammered righties since joining the Padres via trade before the 2020 season, recording a .220 ISO and 127 wRC+.
