Tigers shut down Michael Fulmer to work on mechanics
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Michael Fulmer has been shut down to allow him a chance to work on his mechanics, manager Ron Gardenhire said.
There wasn't any mention an injury, but Fulmer will "take a step back to refine his lower body mechanics," Gardenhire said. "There is no timetable on when he is going to get back on the mound." The right-hander, who turned 26 Friday, underwent knee surgery last September. His ERA has gone up each year, from 3.06 as a rookie in 2016, to 3.83 in 2017, and 4.69 last season.
Prior to this announcement, numberFire's models expect Fulmer to record a 4.23 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 125 strikeouts and 51 walks across 155 1/3 innings in 2019.
