Arizona's Steven Souza Jr. (knee) out for the season

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Steven Souza Jr. will undergo season-ending surgery on his left knee following an injury in the penultimate spring training game of the season.

What It Means:

Souza Jr. was rounding third base and sped up late when he awkwardly stepped on home plate. He reportedly suffered an ACL tear, LCL tear, partial PCL tear and posterior lateral capsule tear in his left knee, and it's a devastating end to the 29-year-old's season before it got a chance to begin.

In 72 games last season, Souza hit for a .220 batting average with five home runs, 29 RBI, six stolen bases and a .678 OPS in 272 plate appearances.
