Astros re-sign left-handed reliever Tony Sipp

Houston Astros reliever Tony Sipp has been re-signed by the club, reports MLB.com's Brian McTaggart.

What It Means:

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal says it's a three-year, $18 million deal. Sipp drew interest from multiple teams on the free agent market, but the Astros emerged as the winning suitor. He'll return to a lefty specialist role, where he's registered a 2.66 Earned Runs Average (ERA) and 125 strikeouts in 105 innings over the last two seasons. Houston is putting together an impressive bullpen mix for 2016, having acquired young closer Ken Giles from the Phillies on Wednesday.

Over 54 1/3 innings pitched last season, Sipp recorded a 1.99 ERA, 3.34 xFIP and 1.03 WHIP with one Win Above Replacement. He recorded a 28.7 percent strikeout rate and 6.9 percent walk rate, compared to the league averages of 20.4 and 7.7, respectively.
