Astros announce new deal with Tony Sipp
The Houston Astros re-signed reliever Tony Sipp to a three-year, $18 million contract.
It's been a healthy market for relievers, but Sipp is worth the $6 million per season he's going to get. The left-hander has posted a 2.66 ERA with 125 strikeouts over 105 innings across the last two seasons for the Astros. He's not just a lefty specialist, either, having had plenty of success versus right-handed batters.
Last season, Sipp put up a 1.99 ERA with a 2.93 FIP. He posted a 10.27 strikeouts-per-nine rate and 2.48 walks-per-nine rate. He actually is somewhat of a reverse-split specialist; he held left-handed batters to a slash line of .220/.287/.306 in 2015 and righties to .190/.245/.374.
