Rays' Blake Snell to undergo minor elbow surgery, headed to IL, per report
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Blake Snell will undergo arthroscopic surgery to remove a loose body in his left elbow and is expected to miss at least four weeks, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.
Both sides believe that Snell can return to action in September. Snell has not pitched as well this season as he did during his Cy Young campaign in 2018, but he has also been the victim of some bad batted-ball luck (to the tune of a .339 BABIP).
Snell has a 4.28 ERA with a 3.40 FIP and 3.23 xFIP over 101 innings this season. He is striking out 12.1 batters and walking 3.1 per nine innings.
