Rangers to designate Asdrubal Cabrera for assignment Friday
The Texas Rangers will designated third baseman Asdrubal Cabrera for assignment on Friday.
The 33-year-old veteran is sporting a career-worst batting average after signing a one-year deal this offseason, so the Rangers are cutting bait. Cabrera can still play multiple infield positions, making him a potential option for a contender, assuming he opts for free agency. Tim Federowicz will also be designated for assignment.
Cabrera has hit .235/.318/.393 with 12 homers and 51 RBI in 368 plate appearances (93 games) this season.
