Edwin Diaz losing grip on Mets' closer job

New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway replied that "we have to be open-minded" and "can’t lock ourselves in to one thing" when asked Sunday whether Edwin Diaz was still the club's closer.

What It Means:

Callaway previously voiced support for Diaz, but it appears he's at least considering a change in the ninth. Diaz allowed 2 runs on Saturday and has been scored upon in four straight appearances. Seth Lugo, who has been spotless since the beginning of July, figures to be the next man up,

Diaz owns a 5.44 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 69 strikeouts and 15 walks in 43 innings (47 games) this season. He's converted 24-of-29 saves.
