Boston's Chris Sale (elbow) done for regular season

Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) will be shut down for the next six weeks after being given a platelet-rich plasma injection in his ailing left elbow on Monday.

What It Means:

Sale experienced soreness in his elbow following a start last week. After receiving multiple opinions, it was determined Tommy John Surgery was not necessary, but the PRP injection should speed up the recovery. Sale is not likely to pitch in the postseason, even if the Red Sox make a deep run.

Sale finishes 2019 with a 6-11 record, 4.40 ERA, and 35.6% strikeout percentage in 147 1/3 innings pitched.
