Jay Bruce sitting for Phillies against Nationals
Philadelphia Phillies left fielder Jay Bruce is not starting in Monday's series opener against left-hander Patrick Corbin and the Washington Nationals.
Bruce hit a solo homer while serving as the Phillies' designated hitter during their weekend road trip against the Cleveland Indians, but he was hitless otherwise, finishing 1-for-11 in the three-game series. Jose Pirela is starting in left field on Monday for Philadelphia.
Bruce has hit .224 with a .755 OPS in 49 games for the Phillies this year.
