Matt Albers and White Sox do one-year, $2.25 million deal

The Chicago White Sox signed relief pitcher Matt Albers to a one-year, $2.25 million contract.

What It Means:

The deal includes a $3 million club option for 2017. The Sox will almost certainly exercise it if he pitches anywhere close to as well as he did this past season.

Albers owned a microscopic 1.21 ERA in 37 1/3 innings with the White Sox this past season, but his 3.48 FIP and 3.68 xFIP tell a different story. He owned a whopping -- and unsustainable -- 95.1 percent strand rate and a batting average on balls in play almost .40 points lower than his career average.
