Diamondbacks' Mike Leake opts out of 2020
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Mike Leake has opted out of playing this season, announced general manager Mike Hazen.
Leake is the first known player to opt out of playing in the upcoming 60-game season. His contract includes a $5 million buyout for 2021 and the right-hander will be 33 by next year, so Leake may have already thrown his last pitch for the Diamondbacks. He made 10 starts for the club after being acquired from the Seattle Mariners at last year's trade deadline. Alex Young could compete with Merrill Kelly for the last spot in the Diamondbacks' rotation.
Per FanDuel Sportsbook, the Diamondbacks are tied for the 12th-lowest odds (+4300) to win the 2020 World Series.
