Matt Kemp

Matt Kemp signs with Rockies

The Colorado Rockies signed outfielder Matt Kemp to a minor league contract.

What It Means:

Kemp is filling the roster space made vacant by Ian Desmond deciding to sit out MLB's scheduled 60-game season. The Marlins signed Kemp to a minor league deal back in December, but he became a free agent after they decided not to include him in their 60-man player pool. Kemp set career-lows with a .200 batting average and .493 OPS across 62 plate appearances for the Cincinnati Reds last season. He figures to offer the Rockies some outfield depth and could also see at-bats in the National League's newly-implemented DH spot. Kemp turns 36 in September.

Per FanDuel Sportsbook, the Rockies are tied for the seventh-worst odds (+16000) to win the 2020 World Series.
