Cardinals mention Ryan Helsley as possible closer
According to President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Ryan Helsley could close this season.
After being mentioned in Mozeliak's first response to St. Louis' closing situation, Helsley may be the front-runner for the role among other candidates including Carlos Martinez if he doesn't make the rotation and Gio Gallegos who is not currently in camp. Expect the 25-year old right-hander to be used in high leverage situations even if he doesn't win the ninth inning job.
numberFire's models currently project Helsley to produce a 4.29 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched.
