Athletics' Chris Bassitt targeting 5-6 innings
Oakland Athletics pitcher Chris Bassitt indicated Wednesday that he will be able to throw 5-6 innings by the start of the season.
Bassitt said he was long-tossing and throwing during the quarantine but didn't have access to a facility or simulated games. The 31-year-old right-hander could have a rotation spot to start the season if Jesus Luzardo (COVID-19) is unavailable. He recorded a 3.81 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 141 strikeouts and 47 walks over 144 innings last season. Bassitt's previous career-high was only 86 innings.
numberFire's models project Bassitt for a 4.12 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 43 strikeouts and 16 walks over 46 innings this season.
