White Sox Michael Kopech opts out of 2020 season

Chicago White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech has opted out of the 2020 MLB season, according to general manager Rick Hahn.

What It Means:

Hahn released a statement on Friday stating that "Michael Kopech has informed us of his decision to not participate in the 2020 season". He also added that the White Sox organization supports his decision and will work with him to assume his development continues throughout 2020. A former 1st round draft selection by the Boston Red Sox back in 2014, Kopech pitched 14.1 innings for Chicago in 2018, registering a 5.02 ERA, 15 strikeouts, and 2 walks. He missed the entirety of the 2019 season following Tommy John surgery.

Per FanDuel Sportsbook, the White Sox have the 15th best odds (+3300) to win the 2020 World Series.
