Matt Andriese

Matt Andriese appears to be Angels' No. 5

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Matt Andriese appears to be in line for the No. 5 spot in the rotation, per Angels manager Joe Maddon.

What It Means:

The first four spots belong to Andrew Heaney, Shohei Ohtani, Dylan Bundy, and Griffin Canning in some order. Jaime Barria and Felix Peña are the two leading candidates to fill in as the sixth starter to accommodate Ohtani requiring six days of rest. The other starters will pitch on four or five days rest. Andriese went 5-5 with a 4.71 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 54 relief appearances (70 2/3 innings) last year for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The right-hander will turn 31 next month.

numberFire's models expect Andriese to record a 4.54 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 35 strikeouts and 12 walks over 31 2/3 innings this season.
