Phillies acquire Brandon Workman in trade from Boston
The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to a deal to bring pitcher Brandon Workman to the team from the Boston Red Sox.
The Phillies acquired Workman, pitcher Heath Hembree and cash considerations from the Red Sox with pitcher Nick Pivetta and pitcher Connor Seabold heading to Boston. Operating as Boston's closer, Workman pitched 6 2/3 innings so far this season, resulting in a 4.05 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, 4 saves, 8 strikeouts, and 4 walks. He currently in the final year of his contract and is expected to operate as the Phillies closer.
Workman was incredibly effective for Boston last season, recording a 10 win 1 loss record with a 1.88 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 104 strikeouts, 16 saves, and 45 walks in 71 2/3 innings pitched last season.
