Matt Carpenter starting for Cardinals in early game Friday
St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter will start in the first game of Friday's doubleheader against right-hander Trevor Williams and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Carpenter will man the hot corner and hit sixth following a day off. He is hitless in his last 13 at-bats. Tommy Edman will move to right field in place of Rangel Ravelo and hit second. Kolten Wong will move up to the leadoff spot and Brad Miller will handle the cleanup role. Paul DeJong will drop to No. 5 in the order and Tyler O'Neill will fall to eighth.
