Indians' Tommy Hunter (abdomen) headed for the disabled list

Cleveland Indians pitcher Tommy Hunter (abdomen) will likely open the 2016 season on the disabled list, manager Terry Francona hinted Thursday.

What It Means:

Hunter, a free agent this off-season, signed a one-year deal worth $2 million with Cleveland last week, but he is still recovering from surgery on his abdomen and could miss part of April. The 29-year-old Hunter struggled towards the end of last season with the Chicago Cubs and carries questions about his performance heading into the 2016 season.

Hunter posted a 3.89 xFIP in 60 1/3 innings of relief with the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs last season, and his 18.9 strikeout percentage was well above above his career average. Although he had a high ERA with the Cubs (5.74), his 3.40 xFIP suggests it should have been lower.
