Veteran Will Venable released by Indians

The Cleveland Indians released outfielder Will Venable.

What It Means:

Prospect Tyler Naquin's emergence in centerfield spelled doom for Venable. The good news for the veteran outfielder is he shouldn't be out of a job for long. A team looking for outfield help -- like the Philadelphia Phillies -- figures to quickly scoop Venable up.

Naquin was limited to 84 games between Double- and Triple-A last season due to injury but hit .300/.381/.446 when he was healthy. The former first-round pick has batted a robust .400/.462/.629 over 35 plate appearances this spring, notching three triples and a stolen base.
