Braves release Nick Swisher and his $15M salary
The Atlanta Braves released first baseman/outfielder Nick Swisher.
They tried desperately to trade him but found no takers and will now bite the bullet that is his ridiculous $15 million salary for 2016. It should be noted that the Cleveland Indians are covering $5 million of that. Swisher, 35, batted just .196/.312/.320 with 6 home runs and 25 RBI in 76 games last season between Cleveland and Atlanta.
Swisher's .285 wOBA last season was well below his career average of .348 and his -0.6 Wins Above Replacement was the second worst total of his career. We had projected Swisher for just a .287 wOBA in 2016 with 8 home runs.
