Twins sign David Murphy to minors contract
The Minnesota Twins signed outfielder David Murphy to a minor league contract.
LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune says "Murphy won't spend much time in the minors," which means the Twins' outfielders are all on the hot seat. Murphy was released by the Boston Red Sox at the end of spring training and spent two weeks scouting for a new gig -- one which would result in major league playing time. The 34-year-old could find semi-regular starts soon with the badly-slumping Twins.
Murphy batted .283 with 10 home runs and a .739 OPS over 391 plate appearances last season. He accrued a wOBA of .318 and contributed just 0.3 Wins Above Replacement to his teams.
