Mets showing interest in Will Venable and Gerardo Parra
The Mets are expressing interest in lefty-hitting outfielders Will Venable and Gerardo Parra.
Will Venable has hit .248/.316/.392 this season for the Padres with 6 home runs, 22 RBI, and 6 stolen bases. While those numbers aren't amazing, they're numbers that would be extremely valuable for a team struggling on offense as much as the Mets. As for Parra, he's having a career year, hitting .315/.352/.514 with 9 home runs, 31 RBI, 6 stolen bases, and a .369 wOBA. His 1.98 nERD would be the best score of any position player on the Mets.
The Mets need to make a move by the trade deadline. While their pitching is excellent (their starters have a 3.46 ERA, and pitching staff overall has a 3.25 ERA -- third best in the majors), their hitting is absolutely terrible. They have the worst team batting average in the majors (.235), second-worst wOBA (.291), and second fewest amount of runs scored (326). As a whole, just about any hitter would help their offense at this point, so they'd welcome Venable or Parra with open arms.
